President Tinubu issues Order on Critical National Information Infrastructure

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that effective application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is critical in combating financial crimes by enabling real-time surveillance, regulatory compliance, and secure data processing, just as it sought a multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaborations to address issue of illicit financial flows in the country.

The objectives of the Order are to:

  1. designate certain Information and Communications Technology systems (ICT), networks and infrastructure operating in Nigeria, as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII)
  2. develop cohesive measures and strategies for the security and of CNII, and ensure their continued operation;
  3. adopt proactive and holistic approach in the identification, security and protection of CNII;
  4. reduce to the barest minimum, incidences capable of damaging, disrupting, or interfering with the operation, functionality, or integrity of CNII; and
  5. ensure the effective functioning of ICT systems, networks, and infrastructure, which are critical to driving national imperatives, economic development, national security and defense, public health and and government operations.
